Steven Kent and Patrick Nord took to the presentation floor on Tuesday, June 5, at the 2018 Techno Security & Digital Forensics Conference in Myrtle Beach.
The pair held a 50-minute session titled “The Trouble With Cloud Forensics,” offering a look at the struggles of digital investigators in the cloud.
“There are incredible challenges with what we do as digital forensics experts and investigators,” Kent said during the presentation. “We know that time isn’t on our side, but when we get bogged down in the regulations of different states or countries or maybe we’re using outdated and non-functioning tools which can lead to our investigations becoming compromised.”
Speaking to a room of 35-40 experienced security experts, Kent and Nord found a captive audience who face frustrating struggles in their daily forensic efforts.
“We had some great questions following our presentation from the audience,” Nord said. “From how to work with your CSP on data governance to what tools would help ease pain points for investigators, we were able to have some valuable conversations.”
In addition to speaking on Tuesday, the pair were able to attend other sessions and network with attendees at the 2018 Techno Security & Digital Forensics Conference.
“This conference attracts some of the sharpest minds in the forensics and digital security world, so to have had the opportunity to speak and facilitate some thought and conversation was a pleasure,” Kent said. “Walking through the exhibit hall and learning about new technologies was another great experience.”
The next Techno Security & Digital Forensics Conference will take place from September 17-19 in San Antonio, Texas.
