ASC's Joseph Bonanno to Judge Coastal Carolina University Graphic Design Projects

Posted: April 24, 2018

Archetype SC President Joseph Bonanno has accepted an invitation to assist in grading portfolios and projects for graduating seniors of the Visual Arts Department at Coastal Carolina University. On April 26, Bonanno will serve as the lone non-faculty judge on a panel of Coastal Carolina graphic design professors to score the work of the students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design.

"We are excited to have Joseph Bonanno as our outside expert for Coastal Carolina University’s senior graphic design portfolio review," said Jeff Case, Associate Professor of Design & Technology at Coastal Carolina University. "The work Joseph will be reviewing is a culmination of four years of study by our graphic design students, in which they prepare a professional portfolio to seek employment after they have completed their studies at CCU."

The portfolios created by the students are part of the Graphic Design Senior Capstone course required for graduation with a degree in graphic design. Coursework includes tackling advanced problems in graphic design for print and web. The portfolio created by students should be "versatile, well-rounded and high-quality" to help students land a career in design.

"It is an honor to be asked to work with the faculty at CCU to judge the work of their graduating seniors," Bonanno said. "I'm excited to see what the next generation of graphic designers can bring to the table and to see what they have been able to create over the past few years. If it is anything like my time in college, I know there was a lot of tireless effort, hard work, and stress involved in creating these portfolios."

In addition to grading the portfolios of graduating seniors, Bonanno will serve as a special judge for the Best in Show award in the graphic design exhibition from the senior capstone course, which will be on display in the Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery. The Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery is the main exhibition area for the Department of Visual Arts at Coastal, hosting works like "But if the Crime Is Beautiful" by Lauren Kalman, "Reflections" by Claudia Wilburn, and "Bread and Circus" by Diana Farfan, during its time on campus.
