Securing Southwest Airlines

Providing Managed Security Services, Outsourced IT, and 24/7 Support to a Major Airline

The Problem

Southwest Airlines is a major United States airline headquartered in Dallas, Texas, and is the world’s largest low-cost carrier. The airline has more than 50,000 employees and operates a fleet upwards of 700 aircraft with 4,000 daily flights.

Southwest Airlines sought multiple partners to take over the entirety of its IT staff, from identity & access management to network security. The airline facilitates combined 70,000-plus employees and contractors globally.

The Solution

Archetype SC earned work in Identity & Access Management, Network Security, Threat Prevention, and Security Integrations, which required the hiring of an additional 25 security engineers in a 90-day span.

Following the addition of 25 security engineers, Archetype SC began work managing more than 60 technologies on a 24/7 basis, within an expanded NOC and SOC.

The Results

Providing 24/7 on-call support, which grew into 24/7 staffing, Archetype SC managed Level 2 and Level 3 alerts to maintain strict security standards for Southwest.

Tasked with managing 9 IAM technologies, critical for work on a daily basis, for more than 50,000 employees and approximately 20,000 contractors, Archetype SC resources consistently delivered ahead of schedule.

Constant threats were levied against the network infrastructure at Southwest, requiring an expert team to monitor, manage, and escalate security incidents.

Technologies Supported
