Case Study

Taking Thomson Reuters to the Cloud

Thomson Reuters is one of the world’s most trusted provider of answers, helping professionals make confident decisions and run better businesses with a team of experts bringing together information, innovation and authoritative insight to unravel complex situations and a worldwide network of journalists and editors who keep customers up to speed on global developments that are relevant to them.

The Problem

Users needed access from multiple endpoints

In trying to keep up with current technologies, Thomson Reuters sought a multi-factor authentication solution that allowed its global users to work from any endpoint. Previously, users had multi-factor authentication tied to a single computer, an obsolete solution for a media company with resources working around the clock all over the world.

Our Approach

Integrated technologies to meet complex needs

Archetype SC security engineers developed a solution that would integrate with current technologies in use by Thomson Reuters, initially requiring a registry of users to the two-factor solution. After seeing this method wouldn’t work, the engineers devised a new plan.

The Solution

A compromise of security and functionality

After finding that a two-factor registry would not meet the needs of Thomson Reuters, Archetype SC engineers created a one-time login method that allowed for a user to register for the service without having multiple steps to complete.

The Results

A More Connected Thomson Reuters

ArchetypeSC crafted a multi-factor solution to allow Thomson Reuters users to access:

WebAPI is critical for Thomson Reuters users to interact with custom applications and the company intranet

Microsoft Office 365

Users access Microsoft Office 365 for company email and a public cloud portal

The Thomson Reuters development team uses CyberArk for Privileged Access Management of its critical and high value assets

Cisco VPN

Advanced security measures were needed for remote employees and connected offices, which access data on the network from off-network endpoints
